This collection consists of a single 8 x 6 photograph of eleven Confederate veterans standing in front of a home in Romney, West Va. The veterans are identified, and included is the inscription from the reverse of the original photograph. It says, 'Entertained at the home of John J. Cornwell and wife in honor of J. D. Parsons and his ex-confederate comrades, March 1915.'

This collection includes correspondence while Jamison was Secretary of War of South Carolina, 1861; scattered letters and papers pertaining to the South Carolina Secession Convention of which he was president, and papers related to his tenure as presiding judge of the military court of Gen. Beauregard's Corps, 1862-1864. Robert Woodward Barnwell and Lawrence Massillon Keitt are among the correspondents.

The papers of Captain David L. Hopkins, include 12 letters to his wife, Lou, all but one from his post in Lynchburg, Virginia, concerning their Lexington, Virginia farm, food supplies, mutual acquaintances, and occasionally the war, in particular the Battle of Lynchburg as well as several other family letters and Confederate money.

Scope and Contents This letter was written by Mrs. E. F. Farrar and Annie De Moss from Vicksburg, Mississippi on February 15, 1866 to Robert E. Lee. The two women write that their letter includes a check for $536 intended for Stonewall Jackson's widow and child, and request that Lee forward it at his convenience. The letter continues and expresses the pain that is felt by them in defeat after the war's end, and describe the nature with which life continues in the south. This collection consists of three letters written by E. M. Walden from various Confederate States of America camps (near Wilmington, NC; Kinston, NC; and Richmond, VA) to his sister. He provides her with updates on CSA military activities and mentions General Sherman's raid in Georgia. The letters are dated June 13, 1863, Dec. 3, 1864, and Jan. 20, 1865.

Scope and Contents This collection came from the estate of Ellinor Gadsden in 1985. Highlights of the collection include the letters of Alexander Swift(Sandie) Pendleton, a Washington College graduate who was a top aide to Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson during the American Civil War. Huffman, a member of the Washington and Lee University School of Law, Class of 1898, as well as genealogical correspondence and charts.

Hinholzer, November 3, 1864, December 3, 1864, and May 15, 1865; subscription list of a testimonial to Charles A. Davidson for service on behalf of the Conservative ticket.

The image is a 1945 copy of a retouched original photograph of Clack. It is a 3/4 standing view. The photograph was given to Washington and Lee University in 1945 and was accompanied by a letter which details Clack's service records. This collection includes manuscript and typecript sketches of 41 Washington and Lee Alumni who served in the American Civil War. The materials were compiled for a proposed memorial volume which was never completed. Included are letters to McDowell from veterans, descendants of veterans, and associates answering his request for information.
