Patrick Hinely Collection
This collection contains materials about the work of Washington and Lee University's University Photographer Patrick Hinely. Includes materials from three exhibits: two about Jazz musicians, one in Staniar Gallery and one at the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt in Germany, Europe's largest Jazz related research institution, the third about Rockbridge County. There are also several news articles from the Alumni Magazine and two other publications.

Peabody Summer Normal School Pamphlet
This pamphlet about the Peabody Summer Normal School contains a list of faculty, information on board and lodging, what to expect during the sessions, photographs of scenic views taken by Michael Miley including some on Washington and Lee University's campus, and local business advertisements. The summer session was under the direction of Dr. Charles H. Winston of Richmond College. A normal school is now frequently called a teacher's college.
Pendleton Family Correspondence
This collection consists of three letters addressed to Jane and one to Gordon. One addressed to Jane, dated 1879, is from her brother-in-law William Pendleton; it consoles her on the death of her long-time husband. The one to Gordon is from A. W. Pendleton in Warsaw, Virginia.

Philander Chase Letter
This is an autographed letter signed from Philander Chase in New Orleans, La. to Rev. C. Jones. Chase mentions shipping a barrel of oranges on the Brig Holkar ship. A prayer is written on the back of the letter in a different handwriting.

This collection includes a photograph and accompanying negative of Dr. A. Nash Johnston. Johnston was born in Tazewell County, Va. lived and practiced medicine in Richmond and Goochland County, Va. He moved to Rockbridge County about 1890, where he practiced medicine, served as a state Senator from his district, and from 1900 - 1904 served as the Superintendent of Schools for the county. A. Nash Johnston was the son of Virginia novelist Mary Johnston.
