John M. Godown Papers

Julia Wise letter

Scope and Contents

This letter from Julia Wise to her aunt describes people and conditions during an early part of the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi during the American Civil War. Among the individuals named in the letter are: Sophranna Ross, Joel Wise, Andrew Currie, Albert Currie and Martin Fortner. A photocopy and transcription of the letter are housed with the item.

L. A. and Lizzie Harper correspondence

Harper and his wife, Lizzie, while he was stationed at James Island, South Carolina during the siege of Charleston and later during the Virginia campaigns of 1864. The collection also includes muster rolls, other documents, and typed transcriptss of the correspondence.
