John M. Godown Papers
Included in the papers are diaries, letters, and 25 photographs; also included are letters of several generals and high ranking officers of the American Civil War; Godown's diary is dated 1853-1861; his letters are dated 1861-1865; General Henry Lawton's letters are dated 1886-1899; and the family photographs are dated 1873-1935.
John White Brockenbrough Papers
This collection contains two of John Brockenbrough's personal correspondences, a letter of resignation from Washington and Lee University, and a bank receipt from the Bank of Lexington. One of the personal correspondences contains information about military movements in Virginia during the American Civil War.

Joseph Fauber Shaner Correspondence
The collection consists mainly of photocopies of American Civil War letters written to and from Joseph Shaner and his family. It also includes a portion of Shaner's 1862 diary, his service records, one photograph, obituaries, history, reminiscences, and genealogies (1754-1978) pertaining to the Shaner family and other Rockbridge County families.
Joseph Martin Letter
This collectin is a photocopy of a letter written by Joseph Martin informing a friend that the friend's son was killed during a military engagement at William Mann's mill. The letter was written from Fort Young. There is also a typed transcription of the letter.
Julia Wise letter
This letter from Julia Wise to her aunt describes people and conditions during an early part of the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi during the American Civil War. Among the individuals named in the letter are: Sophranna Ross, Joel Wise, Andrew Currie, Albert Currie and Martin Fortner. A photocopy and transcription of the letter are housed with the item.
L. A. and Lizzie Harper correspondence
This collection contains the correspondence of L. A. Harper and his wife, Lizzie, while he was stationed at James Island, South Carolina during the siege of Charleston and later during the Virginia campaigns of 1864. Topics include camp life, Harper's court-martial, domestic affairs, sanitary conditions, and supplies. The collection also includes muster rolls, other documents, and typed transcriptss of the correspondence.

M. H. Achord American Civil War Reminiscences Collection
Collection contains mainly correspondence about American civil war historical matters as well as a typed copy of a muster roll of the Colyell Guards (Company G., 9th Louisiana Infantry, Livingston Parrish), which were commanded by Captain J.S. Gardner, and a newspaper clipping.

Robert H. Chilton letter
In this letter Robert H. Chilton seeks employment after the conclusion of the American Civil War. He mentions his previous employment as the Chief of Staff in Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. The recipient of the letter is unknown.
South Carolina Papers
This collection consists of papers from South Carolina, including: two letters, January 11 and January 14, 1865, from Major General Joseph Wheeler to General Braxton Bragg; printed 1833 broadside of a restrictive bill concerning slavery in South Carolina; other Civil War documents.
Stephen Dill Lee letter
In this letter from Stephen Dill Lee to Mrs. Gray, dated 1904 from Columbus, Missippi, Lee thanks Mrs. Gray for her kind Christmas letter and writes that it caused him to recall events from the American Civil War era, during which he served with her husband.

This collection contains typescripts of letters from Thomas L. Broun to his sister Anne and brother Edwin. The letters discuss Broun's life as a member of the Kanawha Riflemen in the Confederate States of America's army during the American Civil War.
United Daughters of the Confederacy Collection
Consists of miscellaneous correspondence related to the Lee Memorial Fund at Washington and Lee University in 1921. Includes newspaper clippings and pamphlets concerning the Confederacy, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and primarily, the passing of a resolution naming Lincoln's birthday as a national holiday. Also includes correspondence with Douglas Southall Freeman and others.
Welsh Family Papers
This collection is primarily general family correspondence including Civil War letters (dated 1862-1864) from John P. Welsh, a Confederate infantry officer, and James L. Welsh. There are also 34 family letters on microfilm, 12 of which were written by John P. Welsh during his confinement in a Federal prison.
William H. Davis Correspondence
The collection contains transcripts and copies of William H. Davis's letters home to his wife Millie, from Monterey, Petersburg, and other Confederate army posts in Virginia. The material is a record of a common, unlettered man pouring out his homesickness to his wife.
