This collection contains certificates and diplomas received by Livingston Waddell Smith from Washington and Lee University. They range in date from 1895-1902.

The certificates note Smith's proficiency in Latin, Mathematics, French, Modern Languages, German, Chemistry, English, and Physics. The diplomas include his B.A. (1896), M.A. (1898), and PhD (1902). Each diploma still has its ribbons.

Biographical Note

Livingston Waddell Smith was born on May 30, 1876 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.A. in 1896, an M.A. in 1898, and a PhD in 1902. Smith died on August 9, 1956 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Lexington, Va.
