Conditions Governing Access

These papers were transferred to Special Collections and Archives over several years by Professor Pamela Simpson who taught archiectural history classes at Washington and Lee University. The papers were researched and written by her students about university, Rockbridge County, and City of Lexington properties, some of which no longer exist.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) governs access to educational information and records of students. In the interest of transparency, the papers were transferred without the expressed written consent of the students, all of whom hold copyright to their individual paper. The papers also include student grades, which are protected under FERPA. General Counsel has advised us that we can make these papers accessible under Fair Use provided we make the papers anonymized to protect the identity of the students and redact the grades to ensure compliance with federal law.
